NFL Super Bowl – The Arizona Cardinals are currently working on a deal to make Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon their next head coach, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.Â
Gannon has been the Eagles defensive coordinator since 2021. He joined Sirianni’s coaching staff, following him from Indianapolis after being the Colts defensive backs coach for three seasons. Gannon has also held assistant roles with the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings.
The Philadelphia Eagles defense jumped from 25th to sixth in defensive DVOA year-over-year. The 2022 Eagles led the league with a -15.5% defensive passing DVOA and finished tied for fourth-best with 27 forced turnovers. Philadelphia also posted a league-best 11.2% adjusted sack rate. The difference between them and second place (Dallas, 8.9%) is the same as the difference between second place and 23rd place.
Gannon joins an Arizona Cardinals team that fell from sixth to 24th in defensive DVOA year-over-year. The Cardinals have finished top-ten in defensive DVOA seven of the last ten years.
