Following Saturday’s clashes between the Romans and the Milanese, Atalanta hosted Juventus at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo for the third direct Top-Four encounter of the Serie A weekend. The early kickoff started on a rather slow note, but the Bianconeri snatched the lead early in the second half through Samuel-Iling Junior on his full debut, while Dusan Vlahovic came off the bench to seal victory at the very last gasp of the match. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who jumped to second place in the Serie A standings on the back of a 2-0 win over Atalanta.
Juventus (3-5-1-1)
Wojciech Szczesny – 6.5
Despite Atalanta’s late fury, the Pole didn’t have an awful lot to do, but he earned his clean sheet with a nice reaction save on Tuen Koopmeiners’ shot.
Danilo – 6.5
Despite a couple of scares, it was a solid display overall from the Juventus captain who made several important interceptions, including a block on Luis Muriel’s shot.
Daniele Rugani – 7
A splendid defensive display from the benchwarmer who earned a rare starting berth. Won the battle of wills against Duvan Zapata and was always first to the ball.
Alex Sandro – 6
A mixed bag from the Brazilian who made vital contributions at the back, while also giving the ball away in dangerous areas on a couple of occasions.
Juan Cuadrado – 6
A hard-working display from the Colombian who kept Joakim Maehle relatively quiet, but he wasn’t too influential in the attacking phase.
Nicolò Fagioli – 6
A decent display from the young Italian who tried to pick up his teammates in the box with lovely crosses before making way for Pogba.
Manuel Locatelli – 7
A rock-solid outing from the Euro 2020 winner who repeatedly sacrificed himself to protect the backline. Won back possession on countless occasions.
Adrien Rabiot – 6.5
The former PSG picked up a yellow card for a rash challenge that ended Jeremie Boga’s outing. But he enjoyed a good display and his contribution was felt on both ends of the field.
Samuel Iling-Junior – 7.5
The young Englishman scored a goal on his full Juventus debut. He started the play himself as he regained possession on the left flank before pouncing on the loose ball and maintaining his nerves in front of goal. A day to remember for the 19-year-old.
Angel Di Maria – 6
The Argentine wasted an inviting chance on the edge of the box in the first half. Picked up Pogba with an outrageous ball. Decent display overall.
Arkadiusz Milik – 5.5
The Pole did well to ward off Berat Djimsiti off the ball, but couldn’t really threaten the Atalanta goalkeeper.
Substitutes
Dusan Vlahovic – 7
The Serbian connected well with his teammates and helped Juventus take the ball out of their areas. Wasted a good scoring opportunity but made up for it by sealing the victory with a wonderful last-minute strike.
Paul Pogba – 6
Another positive cameo from the Frenchman who’s gradually regaining his best physical form. Made some impressive dribbles and tested Marco Sportiello with two shots
Federico Chiesa – 6.5
The Italian made a swift run from box to box before laying the ball to Vlahovic who put the final nail in Atalanta’s coffin.
Filip Kostic – N/A
