Tottenham set to launch huge bid for Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi

New Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has made Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi his No.1 target for the summer transfer window.

Kyogo Furuhashi

Earlier this week, Tottenham confirmed the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach on a four-year deal. The 57-year-old arrives in north London after guiding Celtic to a remarkable treble last season. He will now oversee a wide number of incomings and outgoings, as Tottenham look to fight for the top four next term after enduring a disastrous 2022-23 season.

With Postecoglou leaving a successful Celtic side, several of his key players are naturally being linked with a move to Spurs. That includes Kyogo Furuhashi, who was awarded Scotland’s Player of the Year following his 34-goal campaign, including a strike in the Hoops’ Scottish Cup final win over Inverness.

The Japanese international, 28, arrived at Celtic Park from Vissel Kobe for £4.6m in 2021 and would now fetch five times the then transfer fee after netting 54 goals in 83 appearances. The versatile forward is being tracked by some of Europe’s big clubs, with Italian outfit Lazio scouting him earlier this past campaign.

Furuhashi was Postecoglou’s leading marksman at Celtic and the new Spurs manager is reportedly set to launch a “huge bid” to sign him this summer.

Kane, Son could leave Spurs

Harry Kane continues to be heavily linked with both Manchester United and Real Madrid. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has made Kane his no.1 transfer target as he seeks a striker who could improve his team’s productivity in front of goal. Real Madrid, meanwhile, could plump big for the England international to replace the recently-departed Karim Benzema.

While the Kane rumours continue to dominate the back pages of English tabloids, Spurs fans may also have to brace themselves for the exit of Son Heung-min. Son, 30, who could only manage 10 goals and six assists in a tough 2022/23 Premier League campaign, is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia. The South Korean star still has two years left on his current deal, but clubs from Saudi Arabia could decide to splash big on him to turn Spurs’ head this summer.

Brazilian forward Lucas Moura is leaving while loanee Arnaut Danjuma will return to Villarreal after the north London club decided against activating the buy option. So, Postecoglou has to make quick and important decisions to tackle many issues facing his club.

Postecoglou makes Furuhashi his No.1 summer target

Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy will try their best to retain Kane but it looks difficult considering the advances from Man United and Real Madrid. If not replace Kane immediately, then at least get another reliable option in the offensive department. And Spurs’ new Australian boss has made Kyogo Furuhashi his No.1 target.

Furuhashi is hugely admired by Postecoglou, and his ability to play in a variety of attacking roles could make him a valuable addition to Spurs ranks. The Japanese was an instrumental figure behind Celtic’s domestic treble win this past season, scoring 27 goals in 36 league outings. With his movement, link up play, finishing and work ethic, he could be a real handful for Premier League defenders and score goals.

Daniel Levy is set to hand Postecoglou a big budget to revamp the squad, and landing Furuhashi for around £20m would represent a steal in today’s age and market.
