Almost two weeks have elapsed since Dalvin Cook was let go by the Minnesota Vikings. The accomplished running back, with four Pro Bowl nods under his belt, was unambiguous in expressing his desire to join the Miami Dolphins for the 2023 season, during a recent interview.
In his conversation with Sirius XM’s NFL Radio, Cook asserted his belief that he would be an ideal addition to the Dolphins‘ offensive lineup.
As a running back you look for a certain scheme and I know the scheme that I’m good in, and that’s outside zone, and that’s what the Miami Dolphins run. So it’s like, you know, it’d be a perfect fit. And the roster, like you said, speaks for itself.
The Dolphins are currently blessed with two formidable wide receivers in the form of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. However, their rushing capabilities failed to match up to their aerial prowess last season. In the 2022 campaign, Miami secured the fourth position in passing offense while their rushing offense languished at 25th.
But Cook‘s interest in the Dolphins is not solely about the football strategy. He was raised in Miami, and the prospect of returning to his hometown thrills him.
Yeah, it’s an exciting situation to go into when you got guys that can stretch the field on the outside. I think that defense is pretty solid to me. Tua, when he’s out on the field, they got a winning a record.
Though there are no known overtures from the Dolphins to Dalvin Cook so far, it would be a questionable move for a playoff-bound team on the cusp of championship contention to overlook the opportunity to collaborate with one of the most stellar running backs of recent years.
