Christian Pulisic‘s club future appears farther away from Chelsea FC by the day. A number of teams are keeping tabs on the United States captain, but one in particular seems to be pushing hardest at the moment.
AC Milan are already trying to sign Pulisic‘s USMNT teammate Yunus Musah and now want Puli himself. According to The Athletic, the Rossoneri are negotiating directly with the Blues — but a final agreement doesn’t seem close.
Milan offering $15 million
Milan, the 2021/22 Serie A champions, have made a verbal offer for Pulisic and are seeking to leverage a good relationship with Chelsea into a financially-friendly deal. Milan recently finalized the acquisition of Ruben Loftus-Cheek after weeks of talks with Chelsea.
However, whereas there was relatively limited interested in Loftus-Cheek, Chelsea are aware of widespread intrigue over Pulisic, who scored only one Premier League goal last season but continues to shine for the national team.
One factor working in the Rossoneri‘s favor might be a reported contract agreement with Pulisic, who has attracted interest from France as well. Even if Chelsea value the 24-year-old at close to $30 million, the key to a Milan move might end up being his agreement over personal terms with the Champions League semifinalists
Could Pulisic play in MLS?
Pulisic‘s profile around Europe likely ensures that he will stay on the continent this summer — but Major League Soccer might clear a path for him to return to the United States in the coming years.
Pulisic has never played for an MLS side, as he moved to Germany as a 16-year-old after a brief stint with the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. MLS intrigue is arguably at an all-time high following the announcement that Lionel Messi will make his debut in the league later this month, and the return of “prodigal son” Pulisic could be on the cards in a few years’ time.
